Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is of paramount importance here at Fairfield.

On Tuesday, our Headteacher and Literacy Leader visited Burley and Woodhead School in Ilkley, Yorkshire to see their implementation of the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds support Scheme. This visit allowed us to spend time in a wonderful setting, accessing some excellent CPD to bring back into school. It also meant we could spend time with representatives from Little Wandle as we explore opportunities to work more closely together to provide support to a wider network of schools here in Cumbria.

On Tuesday afternoon, one of our Maths Subject Leaders delivered in-house training to all of our teaching staff centred around using problem solving to a greater effect in the primary classroom. It was a very active session, with time provided for the teachers to ‘test’ the suggested activities in collaboration with their year group colleagues. Already, we have seen many of the new initiatives implemented within lessons.

Yesterday, our Deputy Headteacher attended an engaging workshop ran by the WELL Project based upon effective implementation and utilising evidence-based approaches to aid the process of implementation and help to deliver sustained change. The workshop allowed us to collaborate with other leaders in West Cumbria and hear from an expert in the educational field, from Nottingham University’s Action Research. We enjoy working alongside our WELL colleagues on a number of different initiatives.

Here at Fairfield, we are a research driven school and are passionate in ensuring we utilise trusted, educational research to deliver the most effective pedagogical practice for our pupils and we use both local and national opportunities to enhance our knowledge and expertise.
