Music is a particular strength of the school. Alongside weekly curriculum lessons delivered through Charanga, pupils have access to specialist guitar and brass tuition, as well as opportunities to perform both in school and the wider community. Our successful school choir performs at community events and proudly represents Fairfield at the annual Young Voices concert. Throughout the year, professional musicians and performers visit school to inspire pupils, culminating in our annual Spring Music Concert and the hugely popular Fairfield Rocks event, where children experience live music in a festival-style atmosphere.

These include visits to Castlerigg Stone Circle, where children explore prehistoric Britain firsthand; Wordsworth House, providing insight into life in the Georgian period; Tullie House Museum and Keswick Museum, where pupils engage with artefacts and local history; and Vindolanda Roman Fort, where children experience life on the Roman frontier and deepen their understanding of Roman Britain.
Children also benefit from visits to Horrible Histories theatre productions, which bring significant historical events and characters to life through engaging and memorable performances. Annual Remembrance Day commemorations provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to reflect on conflict, sacrifice and the importance of remembrance in contemporary society.
Our school grounds and outdoor environments are used extensively to create immersive historical experiences. Pupils take part in battle re-enactments, bringing key historical events to life through role play and investigation. Linked to their study of the Stone Age, children engage in practical hunter-gatherer activities, exploring how early communities lived, survived and interacted with their environment. Many of these experiences are delivered through our highly regarded Forest School programme, providing authentic opportunities for experiential learning.
Residential visits further strengthen historical understanding by allowing children to visit places of historical significance and explore the relationship between people, places and events over time.
