Our Inclusion Strategy
At Fairfield Primary School, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child should feel valued, respected, supported and able to succeed, regardless of their starting point, background, need or circumstance. Inclusion is not a standalone document, intervention or provision; it is woven through every aspect of school life, from high-quality teaching and learning to enrichment opportunities, pastoral support, attendance, behaviour, well-being and wider participation. This whole-school approach reflects the Department for Education's vision of creating schools that are "inclusive by design", where barriers to learning are identified early and removed through proactive, evidence-informed practice.
Our Inclusion Strategy is built around the understanding that all children benefit from inclusive practice. Whilst we are committed to meeting the needs of pupils with SEND, inclusion extends far beyond statutory plans, diagnoses and individual support programmes. It is about ensuring that every child can access the curriculum, participate fully in school life, develop a sense of belonging and achieve their potential. This includes our focus on adaptive teaching, curriculum accessibility, personal development, enrichment, family engagement, positive relationships and creating an environment where every child to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
At Fairfield, our Inclusion Strategy is closely aligned with our Disadvantaged Strategy. We recognise that barriers to achievement can arise from a range of factors, including special educational needs, socioeconomic disadvantage, attendance, well-being, language and life experiences. By bringing together our inclusion and disadvantage priorities, we can take a joined-up approach to removing barriers, improving outcomes and ensuring equitable opportunities for all pupils.
Both strategies are integral to our School Development Plan and support our wider vision for continuous school improvement. Through careful evaluation of need, evidence-informed decision making and strong partnerships with families and external agencies, we work to ensure that inclusion remains a shared responsibility and a defining feature of the Fairfield experience. In doing so, we aim to create a school community where every child feels they belong, every child is supported to succeed and every child is equipped to excel and thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
