We held our annual service of remembrance on Friday and this year we had a special visitor.
We took time in assembly to honour and remember those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom. In what was a moving assembly, including two emotional songs from the choir, we focussed on the centenary of the end of WWI and what impact it had on the world as we know it.
Year 5 had been working on a topic named ‘letters from the trenches’ and the mayor of Cockermouth kindly visited to present awards to his favourite letters (he read all 60 letters beforehand!). The standard of writing was incredible and the mayor was overwhelmed by the quality of the work and the emotions that came through the writing.
There are a number of remembrance services across the town weekend. The town service will be held at 1pm at the Methodist church (Lorton Street) and at the cenotaph at 2pm.
